Course Curriculum — Step by Step

Module 1: Foundations of Arabic (Weeks 1–4)

Arabic alphabet review and letter recognition. Introduction to short and long vowels (Harakat). Basic sentence structure: subject, verb, object. The definite article (Al) and how it changes words. Masculine and feminine nouns in Arabic. Practice reading simple Quranic phrases with understanding.

Module 2: Core Vocabulary (Weeks 5–10)

The 200 most common Quranic words — studied through Quranic context, not isolated lists. Verb patterns (Awzaan) — understanding how Arabic verbs change form. Pronouns in Arabic: he, she, they, we, you, I. Plurals — broken and sound plural forms. Direct reading of Surah Al-Fatiha, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas with word-by-word understanding.

Module 3: Grammar in Context (Weeks 11–16)

Idhafa (possessive construction) — "the book of Allah," "the mercy of Allah." Adjective-noun agreement in Arabic. Verb tenses: past, present, and command forms. Conditional sentences in the Quran ("if... then..."). Reading and understanding Surah Al-Baqarah opening verses and selected passages from Juz Amma.

Module 4: Applied Understanding (Weeks 17–20)

Reading longer Surahs with word-by-word breakdown. Building a personal Quranic vocabulary notebook. Independent lookup skills using Arabic dictionaries and Quran apps. Final assessment: student reads and explains selected verses in their own words. Certificate awarded upon completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course for conversational Arabic or Quranic Arabic?

This course is specifically for Quranic Arabic — the classical Arabic of the Quran. It is not a conversational Arabic course. If you want to speak modern Arabic in everyday situations, you will need a different course. But if your goal is to understand the Quran when you read or recite it, this is exactly the right course for you.

How much Arabic will I understand after completing this course?

By the end of the course, you will understand approximately 70% of the words in the Quran by vocabulary alone — because the 500 most frequent Quranic words cover most of the text. Combined with the grammar you will learn, you will be able to follow the general meaning of most Surahs without a translation.

Do I need any Arabic knowledge before starting?

You need to be able to read Arabic letters — that is the only requirement. No grammar knowledge, no vocabulary, no prior Arabic study is needed. We begin from the absolute beginning of Arabic grammar and vocabulary.

How is this different from just reading a Quran translation?

A translation gives you someone else's interpretation of the meaning. When you understand Quranic Arabic directly, you experience the words as they were revealed — with all their depth, nuance, and multiple layers of meaning. Many concepts in the Quran simply cannot be fully captured in any translation. Direct understanding is also essential for Tajweed, Tafseer study, and heartfelt Salah.

Can I take this course alongside my Tajweed or Hifz course?

Yes — and we actually recommend it. Understanding the meaning of what you are memorizing significantly strengthens Hifz retention. Many of our students take Tajweed and Quranic Arabic simultaneously, and they progress faster in both as a result.
